After setting up the editorial, András Murányi, appointed editor-in-chief at the beginning of August, announced the Népszabadság renewal programme: acknowledged intellectual work, strenghtening the online presence and organisational structural changes guarantee that Népszabadsás will be the public affairs daily with the highest number of copies sold in Hungary.

By consolidating the two key areas of the daily, namely, the domestic politics and finances colums, and placing these under joint management, the aim is to present national political events and directly linked financial news in a marked and balanced manner on a daily basis on the first six pages of the newspaper. Péter Cseri, who has been on the editorial team since 1999 and managing the Domestic Politics column since October last year, was appointed to the helm of the Politics and Finance column. He has, amongst others, received the Award for Quality Journalism. Ferenc M. László, who only recently joined the publisher, strengthens the new column strategy. This expert, who has also received the Award for Quality Journalism, joined the leading public affairs daily from HVG.

Repositioning nol.hu and increasing digital presence are the cornerstones of the Népszabadság programme. Nol.hu is at the focus of the development strategy: With his integrated editorial, András Murányi has set the target of increasing the number of articles published per day by 30%; is strengthening the production of video contents, supporting the creative actions of the news teams and increasing presence in the community media.

„I said exactly the same on the day I was appointed as what I say now: Népszabadság will remain an influential, benchmark newspaper. Except from now on with stronger political and financial content, marked online presence and a fast reacting, efficient organisation. Besides Népszabadság, I can hardly name any other newspaper that is still loyal to its readers today. I guarantee that it will be the most exciting public affairs daily in Hungary, while nol.hu will evolve into one on the most successful news sites,” – said András Murányi, editor-in-chief.

A more efficient organisation is needed to reach the goals set. Beyond consolidating the political and financial areas, the staff size of the culture column will decrease, the nol.hu team will increase and operate according to a new work schedule andan extra four pages, updated content and new columns will be added to the popular Hétvége (Weekend) supplement, which will be published on 16 pages from 17 October 2015 with interviews, analysis, reports, inside stories and articles.
