András Murányi was appointed editor-in-chief of Népszabadság by the leadership of Mediaworks from 3 August 2015. The task of the head of the market leading public daily paper and its online portal is to increase the weight and influence of Népszabadság on the market, as well as to ensure its efficient and profitable operation.

András Murányi had previously been working for Népszabadság as a sports journalist, editor and publicist for 14 years. His reports, characteristic opinion pieces, tv-critiques and portraits were also published – in addition to Népszabadság – in Hócipő, Élet és Irodalom, 168 Óra, Magyar Narancs and Hamu és Gyémánt magazine.

Since 2011 András Murányi has been working for the other flagship product of Mediaworks, Nemzeti Sport as general deputy editor-in-chief. His responsibilities included the establishment and operation of the organizational and operational frames of Nemzeti Sport; the renewal of the paper and its supplements, the preparation and execution of professional and financial proposals, projects, and the management of integration procedures.

At his appointment, András Murányi said: “Almost two-thirds of my carrier was spent with Népszabadság. It is a necessity to keep the traditions of the paper, and it is a challenge to improve the quality. I believe in quality content and in print media: Népszabadság will continue to be an authoritative paper that sets a standard for others.”
